United Kingdoms of America

Description

This work was inspired by a quote from a Sherlock Holmes story I was reading. Sherlock Holmes is speaking to an American (Holmes being British), and he says:

"It is always a joy to meet an American...for I am one of those who believe that the folly of a monarch and the blundering of a minister in far-gone years [Note: He's speaking of the American Revolution here] will not prevent our children from being some day citizens of the same worldwide country under a flag which shall be a quartering of the Union Jack with the Stars and Stripes."

This of course was not only an awesome concept (the Reunification of Britain and the United States!!), but it also got me thinking of what that flag would look like. I combined elements of both flags into what you see here. :D

Personally, I think a reunification between the UK and the US would be awesome; the UK is a dying empire, and I think that joining the two great countries would breathe new life into the United Kingdom (and Sherlock did mention a "worldwide country," so maybe it would restore the British Empire, as well). I think it would be benificial to both countries and to the world.

I created this image using Microsoft PowerPoint.

For those of you who'd like to use this as a square display picture (notably Coelurus ;) ), it can be found here: [link]

"The Unified Nation of the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of the United States of the American Continent" [UNUKRUSAC]: The clusterfuck country which makes no sense and has a name that's too long. I don't even know how a unified government would even work: you're trying to reconcile a federal presidential republic with a unitary parliamentary monarchy.
