Behold, my "Secret Project!!" The TARDIS interior, shown as a cross-section.
First off, I wanted to say that I drew the Console Room ENTIRELY from memory, so if all the details aren't exactly correct, that's why.
Needless to say this picture took me a VERY long time to do (my table surface was black with rubbed-off graphite from the sketch phase), and it's still not done; the upper-right hand corner is supposed to show the TARDIS wardrobe (seen in "The Christmas Invasion), but I haven't gotten around to drawing that yet.
Anyway, enjoy what I've done thus far!! To explain a bit about it, the TARDIS is made up of two independent sections; the inside and the outside. The inside doesn't actually go anywhere; it just sits in a dimension of it's own somewhere, while the outside moves around space and travels through time. When one steps through the doors from the inside to the outside, they're actually being transported from the TARDIS' private dimension to the "real world." I drew the true back of the TARDIS door, so you can see that it's really just a big transmitter that sends you to wherever the outside presently is.
I enjoyed adding little details (such as the mallet in the Console Room, used when the TARDIS Console needs a little "percussive therapy"), and designing the sleeping and eating quarters. The sleeping quarters are based on the ones seen in the First Doctor episode "The Edge of Destruction," and the little food dispenser in the eating area is also based on the food dispenser seen in the same episode.
Also visible in the cross-section is the "Heart of the TARDIS," which is always believed to be under the Console itself. I decided to take some artistic liberty and to make it heart-like, since the rest of the TARDIS is so organic.
...yeah. I'm typing from the floor now. You floored me with your talent, scope and attention to detail.
This makes buckets of sense. I love the organic theme continuing outward into the other rooms. It helps to explain how the TARDIS is able to rearrange rooms at her leisure; it looks like she can detach them at will and move the globes around.
(Although, I am a little skeptical about how it's only the outside of the TARDIS that moves. If that's the case, then why does the consle room shake when the the police box crashes? The Fourth Doctor actually showed Leela an excellent analogy for why the TARDIS was bigger on the inside, but I can't duplicate the metaphor in words. It was... the episode right after "The Face of Evil, Part 4," but the name escapes me. Might be on YouTube!)
That nitpick aside, this still floors me, especially your rendition of the Heart. Kind of a replacement energy store after the Eye of Harmony went bye-bye, but with a much more vital role. It looks like a living organ! I like the way it feeds straight up to the Time Rotor. And in the upper left corner, showing globes upon globes stretching out far as the eye can see? BRILLIANT.
Sorry for rambling. Anyway, you've done the old girl proud. Lovely, lovely, lovely. I am in awe. *bows and scrapes*
That's a cool "salute" emoticon!! What do you type to get it??

As always, I LOOOVE your in-depth comments!! It's always nice to have someone really appreciate one's art.
The Fourth Doctor's explaination was to pretty much compare it to something at a distance; even the largest building looks like it can fit in the palm of one's hand when you look at it from large enough a distance.
As for how the inside shakes when the outside is being attacked...call it artistic television license. Sometimes (and this is the first thing you learn when studying film) you need to convey things to your audience in other terms than just dialogue; even if it doesn't exactly make sense, you have to visually give the impression that the TARDIS is being attacked. Ergo, the inside shakes, and the characters bounce around.
Thanks again for the awesome comment!!

B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T! Good job combining retro and new Doctor Who aspects to create this. I notice that you didn't include the massive wardrobe from "The Christmas Invasion" (ah, well, we all have 20/20 hindsight). But the sheer awesomeness of the pic makes up for it. X3

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

It's not that I don't like communists. I just don't like them near me.
