Steampunk Cylon by Promus-Kaa Steampunk Cylon by Promus-Kaa
Here it is, the picture I promised a while back but didn't get up until now. :XD: I believe it was recommended by :iconitsomi:, if I'm not mistaken. :D

I was just going to submit the lineart like I usually do, but I really wasn't happy with it, and I thought the sketch was pretty good...so I submitted both. Thanks to :iconpiperthegreat: for putting them both together!! :D

So yeah...it's a Steampunked Cylon. I didn't steampunk the Cylons from the sh*tty new series of Battlestar Galactica, this a steampunk version of the Cylons from the Original Series of BSG.

Enjoy!! :D

Great job! I'm working on my own Brass & copper steampunk cylon right now. I love BSG, new and old. But Love the old above all others. Great work!

Wow, thanks! I have difficulty with organic shapes, so machinery comes natural to me. I'd love to do better organic subjects...still practicing on that!! :D

Steampunk really isn't that hard; all you need is an adequate knowledge of Victorian technology, and to be sure to make the machine look like it could actually function. :)

KUDOS for referring to Starbuck as a man!! Ugh, I HATE the reboot BSG show. :XD:

But I'm really glad you like this one! Hmm, a steampunk Starbuck...

You HAVE to scan that t-shirt in so I can see it. :XD:

And yes, if I had to bet on a battle between the Standard Old Cylons and the Steampunk Old Cylons, I think I'd put my money on the Steampunk version. :D

wow, awsomly cool! i love how you did the head/helmet!
although, i think you got the represenation a little off. by the apearence and pose, this seems more simialr to the new series butchers. the old series ones seemed more flimsy and disposable. not nearly as buff or mean looking as this guy.
also, is the thing on his right arm reminicent of the sword they carried? and who punched holes in his armour?

I'm so happy the picture got your approval, since I consider you to be the resident expert on BSG, Old and New!! :XD:

I've always felt that the Old Cylons were bulky and had more raw power behind them, whereas the New Cylons are sleeker, leaner, and don't seem as powerful. I tried to make the Steampunk Cylon look more like the Old Cylons, with just certain features exaggerated (like the bulkiness or the raw power).

And I'm happy you caught the sword reference!! :D

thanks.
but from watching both series, i think that you've kind of gotteh the wrong persona. the old cylons were kinda short, clumsy, mroe like the origonal battledroids form starwars. the new ones sport six heavy machine guns on their fore arms, and slice torso's oped with their bare hands. they also walk with a special sound like the cybusmen.

i always did find their swords a little odd, mroe for ceremonial than prectical use.

you know, you seem to look for charicters to draw that coudlent be really represented on screen. robby the robot, the cybermen, the daleks, they all cant really be shown as powerfula s they are ment to be because of difficulties on set. they couldent get cybermen to brutaly attack people with their strength because of safety issued, the daleks are restrictyed to the floors without CG.
but you seem to take the idea of the monster, the spirit of it, what it wanted to bem, and bring it to life. you make the robots that were ment to be powerful but ended up trundling onto the set on a shopping cart, look powerful again.
keep it up!

Well, you're the BSG expert!! Personally I've only seen a few episodes of the new BSG, so I'm not too familiar with those Cylons. From what I saw, they weren't very spectacular, but again...you're the expert!! :D

As for what you said about what I do and draw...I think that's the best review I've ever gotten. That's always been my goal: To show people that those old clunky robots can be pretty bad-ass (as they were originally meant to be!!) without being totally revamped to the point where they look NOTHING like they originally did. You don't have to "reimagine" something to make it powerful like it was meant to be; that's just the cheap, quick, and easy way to do it. I think it's important to bring out the original creator's concept of the robots and fully realize it in the way they were never able to achieve, and to do it justice. "Reimagining" something does no justice to the creator, and sadly it means the original idea will never be fully represented in the way it was meant to be, which is pretty sad, really.

So yeah...I really appreciate that, brother. That's been my goal since the start, and you said it so eloquently...almost brought tears to my eyes. :XD:
