This piece was inspired by Pixelfink's drawing of a Steampunked Cybusman from the new Doctor Who. This was my take on the idea.
If you're wondering why it has all those little details that otherwise aren't necessary, any hardcore Doctor Who fan can quote from "Doomsday" where the Cybusmen pick at the Daleks for having no sense of elegance. So obviously, they see themselves as somewhat of a work of art, and if the brains who created the Cybusmen were from the Victorian times (which is the whole idea of steampunk), I'm sure they would have added little artistic details that were normal for that time. The other details (such as the rivets, vents, smokestacks, and gears) are functional, and are merely a result of this Cybusman being built from technology available back in the Victorian era (or a place like it). I tried to give it a Jules Verne/Nautilus feel to it, and I changed the EarPods into something that looks more like a Victorian wireless transmitter. So anyway...enjoy, and please give plenty of feedback!!
Gorgeous. If they ever go back to Cybermen, I'd love to see one braking through the void and ending up in Victorian England, forcing it to have to adapt to the existing technologies to "convert" new recruits.
I'll admit Cybermen scare the shit out of me, moreso than the Daleks, or indeed any other Doctor Who villain. The cold, clinical and powerful mechanical frames that are the bleeding edge of technology are terrifying. Really, I have nightmares about them. Whilst everyone else was oggling the Cyberwoman in the Torchwood episode of the same name I was wondering where I put the railgun, because she scared the bejesus out of me.
Exchanging the psuedoscience power-source, mechanisms and admantium frame for clockwork, steam and plated brass and painted iron is pure love. They go from being an object of pure terror into something that could be beaten. Dump it in the lake and it's screwed. Armour pierceing ammo? Bullets can stop these buggers, Doctor. Hell, break out the electromagnet and dump it in the Thames.
All in all, I love steampunk, and whilst Cybermen do terrify me, I do have a fascination with them. This marries the two superbly, and I'd dearly love to see this go from merely being a drawing into something more...
kick ass, i was in the shops theother day and seen onea those cybermen masks on display for you to try on... i couldn't i was too scared, great pic as well
Steampunk Cybermen?! (inner Doctor Who and steampunk otaku dies out of shock and happiness) What a brilliant idea! This is something that should be incorporated into a fan-fic! Cyberman invading Victorian Earth and making steampunk Cybermen! The art is gorgeous; the detail of the Cyberman's inner workings is incredible. Now try doing this: a steampunk Dalek!
roxorz. I love the cybermen, and the way you drew this one is fantastic! The details on the wires and gears are <3. And the and the little designs, very creative!

Wow...everyone's comments are making me blush!! I really appreciate it, and I'm glad that everyone liked the detail I put into it. I think I'll also go on DerangedGenius' advice and do a Steampunk Dalek next...

A good job of making something both recognizable yet different.
