Those of you who are familiar with the genre "steampunk" should get this; to those who don't, look up "steampunk" on Wikipedia. In a nutshell, steampunk takes place in the past, or a world resembling the past, where certain machines and/or devices exist that did not exist in that time, but built with materials available at that time. The film and graphic novel series "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is steampunk. Also, steampunk can merely be a Victorian-ized version of an already existing idea; there is one online RPG of a steampunk version of Star Trek that takes place in the 1870s. A recent comic book series places the original "Transformers" in England in the 1880's (the Victorian/steampunked versions of the TF's are AWESOME). Because I dearly love the Victorian era, and would give anything to have lived through it, steampunk is one of the coolest genres on Earth, in my humble opinion.

Anyway, I thought it would be cool to make up a steampunked version of the original "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers." The suits were tricky; in PR, the suits are powered. However, making a suit that runs on steam wouldn't quite work well. Instead, I figured that although their suits LOOK iron-made and everything, they actually run on different versions of the power crystals that run the Zords in the show (if you are a PR fan, you know what I'm talking about). The crystal is "plugged in" in the chestplate dinosaur "disc," which I designed to look like a hatch on the front of a boiler. Since my steampunk Power Rangers takes place in an alternate universe, I figured I'd go with a design that looks more similar to the Ranger suits that were seen in the original film, as the film also takes place in it's own alternate universe. I.E., I gave it more of an armored look, like in the film. This went well with making the suit look more steampunk and Victorian, as a person just dressed completely in tight cloth doesn't look Victorian. Anyway, enjoy the pic!! The uninked, penciled sketch version can be found in my "Scraps" section here. :D
