2. Before the Emperor by Promus-Kaa 2. Before the Emperor by Promus-Kaa
A while ago I did a photomanipulation of Captain Kirk meeting Darth Vader ( [link] ) so I guess you can think of this as a follow-up!

Kirk and his people go up against super-powerful beings all the time - pretty much every episode. The Emperor and his magic tricks are nothing new! How will Kirk talk his way out of this one?

Oh, and this has a follow-up, too! See it here: [link]

Yeah, I don't think Captain Kirk is going to be punching his way out of this one....

LMAO!

So, the Enterprise has been captured by the Executor and brought to the second Death Star. Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock have been brought to the Emperor himself.

Ensuing dialogue

"Welcome, Captain Kirk. I have been expecting you. You no longer need those." (Motions his hand, the cuffs on Kirk's hands come off via the Force) (Emperor)
"Guards, leave us." (The Royal Guards leave, Kirk looks into the Emperor's yellow eyes) (Emperor)
"I'm looking forward to obtaining the knowledge of this United Federation of Planets. In time, they shall be brought into the Empire, and you shall call me Master." (Emperor)
"You must be mad to think the Federation would fall to the tyranny of such a despot. You are sorely mistaken, and you won't force me to hand over all the information." (Kirk)
"Oh no, my young captain. You will find that it is you who are mistaken about a great many things." (Emperor)
"His phaser." (Vader)
"Ah yes, a Starfleet-issue weapon. Much like your father's. (referring to Kirk's dad, not Vader) By now you know you cannot escape the allure of the dark side. So shall it be with your friend (he nods to Spock, who just lifts his eyebrow).
"You are wrong. I would rather die than serve you, and perhaps I'll take you with me." (Kirk)
(Emperor chuckles evilly)
"Perhaps you are referring to the location of your Starfleet, coming to rescue you. Yes, I assure you, we are quite safe from your friends here." (Emperor)
"You are an overconfident fool, and it's your main weakness." (Kirk)
"Your faith in your Starfleet comrades is yours." (Emperor, walks away to throne)
"It is pointless to resist, Captain." (Vader)
"Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Your friends, aboard your Starfleet ships, are walking into a trap, as is the rest of your fleet. It was I who allowed your Starfleet to know the exact location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little fleet. An entire legion of my best troops and the finest ships of the Imperial fleet await them. Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive." (Emperor)
(Kirk looks in helplessness as the Emperor just smiles; Spock remains impassive)

Thanks for comment, and I felt to add another cool dialogue.

And the Death Star vaporizes the Federation ships as they get within range, but then they decide to fight the TIE's instead (but can't, due to the large amount of TIE's from each ISD!) And they are overwhelmed by them, especially the TIE bombers...

Imagine the vision of a person being devoured by ants, or by piranha fish-that will be the Federation Starfleet in a nutshell. Even worse will be the IDS's themselves...

Love the pictures still.

Breathtaking! This is inspired, and Kirk's expression is perfect! I can almost hear him talking sense into the Emperor... That's a hard one though! :)

Thanks! It was hard getting just the right screenshots for this picture, especially to get the eyelines correct (otherwise he'd be looking in the wrong direction).

And you're right that talking sense into the Emperor is a hard thing to do... but I'm sure that Kirk could do it! Kirk can make computers blow themselves up just by talking to them.

Yeah, I know the problem, but you just fixed it perfectly!

Eheh I love to mention those occasions, as they're a clear example that not only Spock is good at logic, but our golden captain can wit his way through obstacles. Still, a good old phaser discharge could do it sometimes.

Hehe, exactly! Despite everyone's obsession with Spock (even the latest movie focused more on Spock...), Kirk has always been a MUCH stronger character, as a person. Sure, Spock could "do" logic, but Kirk had as much of a logical mind as Spock (if not moreso). However, Kirk was much more advanced, in that he was able to ALSO factor in the "illogical," making him much more capable of handling various situations (and interact with different people much better). Spock could NEVER command... any time he ended up in command, things turned ugly (unless he was just searching for Kirk, like in "Gamesters of Triskelion," "The Mark of Gideon" or "The Tholian Web").

Oh, well, that's pretty much how I feel about it, though Spock is probably more trained with logic, Kirk is indeed more equipped to combine logic and feelings in an armonic way. Still, I do think that by spending time with the captain, Spock has learnt a lot about that particular ability in intuition that he indeed has as human heritage, therefore being able eventually to become quite a better commander than most of his senior officers. I think he finally turned out good, very good.

Well you're right, by the third season, Spock was definitely more competent. I love how he handled things in "The Mark of Gideon," for example. It's just too bad they didn't have more seasons, because I would have liked to have seen how Spock's character would have developed!

'We must acknowledge once and for all that the purpose of diplomacy... is to prolong a crisis.' That's speaking, Spock.

Yeah, that's too bad for several thousands reasons, including of curse Spock's increased aptitude to command. ;)

LOL!! That's the quote! I love that one... classic Spock-style humour! :D

And of course, we know that the movies aren't canon... so really, we haven't seen Spock since "Turnabout Intruder." :(

I'm not sure which expression I like the best here. I love both, I just haven't made up my mind which one ranks above the other yet.

Spock does have that appearance of 'You are so lucky that I'm vulcan and have maintained the restraint to keep from beating you to a bloody pulp and stuffing you down your Masters throat" written all over his face tho.

Kirk has that well known, 'One last chance to try this the easy way fella and then its on' look. Sort of I'll let ya thank you 'might' have me but trust me you don't attitude.

It hasn't, but that doesn't mean that it can't. Kirk has threatened to blow up planets before (twice), and Starfleet General Order 7 is the command a starship captain gives (at least in the old show) for his crew to blow up a planet. :)

Seems to me that blowing up a planet might interfere with the Prime Directive. But then again, when has Kirk given a damn about that? Not like that UN blouse Picard.

But those are the boring episodes! We all want Kirk to punch a Romulan peace negotiator in the grill and seduce some green alien queen! That's the starship captain/political nightmare we know and love as James Tiberius Kirk!

Good point, this isn't the first time.

Kirk: "Your 'First Galactic Empire' is nothing of the sort!

There have always been petty men who think that power alone is enough to rule. Men who twist themselves inside and out, and disfigure their very souls, in their lust for strength over all other virtue.

But these men learn, as you will learn, that there is never enough power to intimidate all whom you wish to dominate, neither is there enough to destroy all who would stand against you, or all those who seek justice.

Your power will wane in the light of their righteousness and you will lose, Emperor.

I have foreseen it!"

And you sir, and really good at photo manipulation. I get oodles of manips sent to me by folks, (Usually a television or film starlet in a fantasy situation.) and all of them are characteristically sloppy and obvious. You do an excellent job integrating the images from disparate eras together.

It's easy to write dialog to such inspiring imagery. :salute:
