I need YOUR opinion!

Thu Jun 11, 2009, 2:04 AM
Hello everybody!

I'd like your honest opinion, if you can spare a few minutes. I recently had the idea of seriously doing commissions (paid work), and I'd like to know what kind of price range YOU think my artwork is worth. Be honest! I don't want to name a really high price or something, because then some people might think I'm being pompous - "Ugh, how can he possibly think his art is worth that much?" But I also don't want to literally sell myself short.

I'm thinking maybe $25 for a sketch (which is really all I do), and $30 or so for detailed schematics of something (the more detailed, the higher the price).

I also would, of course, also do concept design - if you have an idea for something (say, a character, machine, or ship/vehicle from a story) and would like to see it realized, I'd draw it. Dunno how much I should charge for that, though!

Hmm. I stumbled across you randomly, and to find a Doctor Who / Trekkie / Steampunk fan.

Plus your signature and "webcam" sort of clinched my watching you.
Haha, yes...although I should probably specify that I'm only a fan of Classic Who and Classic Trek...I'm not a fan of the other stuff. ;)

Glad you liked my webcam (which you seem to have borrowed!), and I'm especially happy that you're somebody who would like my signature. God bless and thanks for the watch! :D

I couldn't help myself but borrow (coughstealcough) it.

And I am not specifically "Classic" when it comes to Who and Star Trek - though the original series definitely both have more heart and wit. Glamour and cheap imitations seem to have replaced them in the newer versions of both series - although I still watch them.

Seems like looks replace a lot of things nowadays.
Ah, well.
Well, I myself stole it from a forum, so I think you're fine. ;)

The newer series aren't bad as generic shows, but they're not good enough to be worthy to be considered as in any way related to or a continuation of the originals, and the endless amount of big explosions and CG glitter at the expense of real substance only makes it worse. :)

But what are you gonna do, right? Well, go to film school and make your own stuff (which is what I'm doing...the film school part). :)

(Ah, good luck with that, then. We do need some better people in that industry, I think...)

I've actually been playing old games and watching old shows alongside new games and new shows recently, and I have noticed that the old games are difficult and brilliant, and the old shows are equally brilliant. The newer games seem to look great but are vacuous in content, similar to new shows.

As if they have a fixed amount of resources, and they spend most of that on looks instead of thought nowadays.

I suppose I ramble.
